User Guide, TCL® 4k Dolby Vision® TV

Using The Remote
One of the first things you’ll notice about the TCL® 4k Dolby Vision® TV is that many of the buttons on the remote won’t respond to a click or push. That’s because those are “long hold” buttons. They’re intentionally set up so you have to hold them for a few seconds for the button’s function to work. This functionality is intended as “bump” prevention, i.e., to prevent those functions from operating if the remote is mishandled or dropped. Hold them down for a few seconds, and the function will occur.
Setting Up Your TV
When you first turn your TV on, you’ll see the above screen. At this point, you’ll also want to add any necessary external hardware. In our case, I plugged our Roku Streaming Stick® 4K into the HDMI-1 connector, and plugged in its power supply.

Use the remote that came with the TV to highlight the gear on the far-right of the screen so its highlighted.

Clicking on this gear will bring up the Settings screen for the TV itself.

The first thing you’ll want to do here is click on the Network button. Follow the screen prompts to connect your TV to your Wifi network.

Once the TV is connected to the internet, it will initialize an update process for the TV’s “firmware”, which dictates how the TV operates. Follow all the prompts as necessary to complete this process. If it lets you know the TV needs to be restarted, be sure to do so.

If for some reason this update process does not occur, it should still happen. Click on the Device & Software button, and you’ll be able to initialize the update process manually.

Once the firmware update process is complete, you’ll want to go through the rest of the Settings button to determine if there’s anything else you want to modify. While the Network and the firmware update process are rather important, any of the other Settings are rather optional.

When you’re satisfied with your settings, turn the TV off, wait at least one minute, then turn it back on. It should go back to the TV’s Home screen.
Option 1: If you’re setting up the TV as an Amazon® firetv® as it’s intended, use the TV’s remote to navigate to the rounded Learn More button at the top left of the screen and click it. Use the prompts to finish your setup.

Option 2: If like us you’re using something other than the Amazon® firetv® system, navigate to the button & arrow button to the left of the Home button, and select the input your appliance is connected to, in our case, HDMI-1. Your system should appear, as our own Roku system did.

At this point, I used the Roku remote to navigate to the Roku settings to gain control of the TV’s power and volume functions. for that other remote.

Turn the TV off, wait another minute, then turn it back on. The TV’s selection/start screen should then appear.

Clicking any button on the remote for your own system should then bring up that system’s Home screen from the appliance plugged into the HDMI port.
